  • Samuel Smith (Tadcaster, UK) makes the best pale ales in the world.

There's no compare to their IPA and Organic ale!
  • yup, the British rules the pale ale for sure. It's just sad that any beer that goes to America gets slaughtered...

  • i 'm guess'n that in the States, drinkers believe beer's an acquired taste.

Hell, of course you are limited to love nothing else but your local brew when you don't try enough of English, Irish, Scot, and Bavarian beers.

I missed my brown ale. I can't find it in Taipei.
  • there are more and more private brewers here in Taiwan. The one in Kaohsiung used to make Brown Ale but people in Taiwan didn't like the taste i guess.

I lived in Germany for 3 years during my teenage, and since the German legal drinking age was 14, I actually like Dark Beer from early on. 金色三麥 has a pretty decent dark beer, http://www.lebledor.com.tw/

They have other Bavarian styled beers, maybe you will like them. But no Brown Ale...

  • Yeah, i had some local brew from central Taiwan 3 years ago. It's called "Black Eagle" or something (forgot, I only remember the bold eagle mark on their tap).

Nice beer review site. I had Spaten Oktoberfest when I was in LA. Great stuffs from that 金色三麥. They sell some Mediterranean and beef-sausages. I used to be able to buy them at my local grocery stores back in the States... really missed them...
  • i lived in LA too, never saw the Spaten at the supermarkets T_T

when I was 14 and lived in Hamburg, I had plenty of Sparten tho... it was legal to drink at 14, what a country. Beer at young age I belive is the key to quality engineering.

  • Hi,

there's actually a German resort place +big grocery mart in Torrence.

i know ale is not very well accepted in taiwan. taiwanese aren't very sophisticate coming to fine drinking (or maybe people are just uneducated). but in taipei lambic had become pretty popular (i consider lambic a type of ale/熟啤酒)。

If u want to have more beer variety at somewhere closer to home, go to Japan. they drink everything. I was very impressed by their selection in local liquor stores.
  • yup, I remember that place, right under 110 actually. I've been there a couple of times.

I think in Taiwan fine drinking, either beer or wine has followings more like a cult. Whereas most of the world fine drinking is popular culture. well, actually maybe not the US...
